Even though the challenging idea of an architect, I.M. Pei who designed the pyramid for The Louvre Museum, has been around for a long time. It seems to be based on an impression of “Controversy” that is a never old idea.
Today, there are still many architects, including us TH Studio Architects, who are always finding and challenging the ideas of the past. The Movement of Controversy was created to guide us towards the future. It was born under the discourse of thought. This movement has created many new waves in the history of human civilization.

Building Minds

A new way of learning: the design of education architecture has a new faced curve. This design is key to elevating the building with hopes to inspire. It does so by incorporating new technologies. TH Studio Architects designed the building to encourage thoughtful minds. They considered a new approach at Technology University. When students walk past or through this building every day, they will start to learn about new classrooms and architecture. Students will also perceive art.

Type: Public Building - “WHAT DOES EARTH WANT TO BE?” [Luise’s Adobe House: บ้านดินหลุยส์]Down to Earth: Nakhon Ratchasima [นครราชสีมา]
In a classroom at an architecture school, a lecturer persuades student to answer the question, “what does a brick want to be?” And, the answers to this question include, ‘a brick can be a lot of things in architecture’. Keeping this in mine we can ask the same question about our soil, “What does earth want to be?”

“All life is born from earth and eventually goes back to earth”
– an old saying make us think about soil – a basic material that is part of the land that covers 30% of our entire planet. Over the centuries and despite the changes taking place in the human race, soil is ever present on earth and fulfills its role regardless of passing of time. It not only brings forth ‘life’ on earth, but also instills the genes of wisdom in all living beings on the planet that create places to dwell under different environments, circumstances and contexts.
One interesting answer to this question can be had by getting to know a piece of architecture located at the edge of Nakhon Ratchasima province. This orange –mass earth shelter can be found out of the city. The house is topped with a lean-to shape roof that is outstandingly superimposing, making the house greatly distinctive after the city’s urban environment.
The Louise earth shelter is constructed using adobe technique that is both beautiful in appearance and energy efficient. An adobe brick, sized 25×40 cm, is made from clay from the rice field together with hay and chaff that holds all ingredients together.
The starting point of the house [บ้านดิน] was initiated by the desire of the owers, Mr. Luise Gracia Ernesto and Arunee Bawornchtuwit, a couple who come from two different cultures and from different parts of the word. They settled down in Nakhon Ratchasima together. The given task is the design of a house with high flexibility of space for undecided future activities in order to support rough ideas as to how the space might be used, for example, to be adapte as a restaurant when the couple wants to retied. Therefore, the architects interpret the use of space by design the ground area of the house as an open space, whereas the living area for the family is placed on the upper floor.

The design is a combination between curves and strait lines the curvy lines appearing around the house give the feeling of inconsistency and unevenness, which is what molding is all about. It is the value of beauty in the creative of art via local wisdom.

To end, “This project could never have happened if the owner were not familiar with this type of architecture; also thanks to Luise’s Mexican background. Not only that, it also thanks to the particular team of craftsmen. We consider very lucky to have them for they are very professional and not afraid to experiment and find new possibilities. And all the earth we use comes from the rice field of their hometown. ” - MED-KHOW [Rice Kernel]: Where are you going?

About the farm project! “Clean contemporary lines with traditional barn reference. Local wisdoms mix”
[ข้าว]: Rice Kernel The project was created to build in Chai Nat is the center part of Thailand. The province as people recognize that is one of the breadbaskets in the country. The project consists of two buildings, one is the office, and another is the rice barn. We intended to create the buildings in the way of contemporary by combined local and global concepts on the fertile land where we can plant the new beautiful seeds, then they are growing up.
[MED-KHOW] FRONT OFFICE
In part of the office, it was supposed to locate along the main road. It is, therefore, the main approach to perceive the farm. The image of the building we got the inspiration from the rice kernel. We named the building ‘Med Khow’. We will also mix a local material like wood, and a modern material like concrete, and to enhance the further with the wooden pattern as the skin. It is becoming a landmark of the farm.

BARN HOUSE: The traditional details juxtaposed modern amenities
In part of the rice barn, its location is behind the office, but it is bigger.
Concept of the barn was influenced the form of the traditional barn. The building is entirely covered by curve roof to direct to the building. When people interact with the building in such concept, they will be familiar with the form, color and materials, possibly adding an element of nostalgic remembrance to their reception of the building. To enhance this further, there will have a scaled up farmyard.

Let’s feel free in the rice field! Chai Nat, Thailand. - MAX LIVING APARTMENT

Max Living Apartment Economical/ Simple/ Squarish/ Quality Structures Pakkred, Nonthaburi, Thailand
This apartment is located in Pakkred district, Nonthaburi. The plot where these 43 rooms
and 7 retail shops are is extremely long and narrow shape. The building is in an architecturally very different neighborhood but supports the project. Including to all these conditions, narrow plot, budget construction, and many living spaces, the building, therefore, was designed under a concept of low cost but high benefits. In part of functions are completely full on the site, the façade is notable for regular urban-style on the street, more irregularly shaped building to the rear.
The key decision consisted of concentrating all the available spaces into the apartments themselves, by make the solid-faced continuous lines connect to the solid walls, and each floors to create a back and forth folding figure on the end of the building. It characterized by the concept.
The client requested a typical multi–storied building with a floor area of 1,800 square meters with the maximum space, and interior space can be reorganized to future flexible needs.
This design is a development composed of so called ‘Max Living’ apartment, which are economical, simple, squarish, quality structures which often have projecting canopies to catch the attention of passers-by. - Hua Hin, Phetchaburi
- SHARE HOUSE
The house is designed to mix two situations, we don’t think they are opposite sides but they can share each other in different ways.
SHARE HOUSE
The concept of the house brought about the old and new situations of family members who will live at this house. The ‘old’ situation is parents and the ‘new’ means a just married couple. They will share on the spaces of the new house. The house is interpreted and called ‘SHARE HOUSE’.
The site of the share house is enclosed with a large orchid garden, and also has many big existing trees on the site. The beautiful surroundings is drawn to share as many parts of the house because it is one of the key points as well as the owner expected to be. Effectively, the house is shaped the lay-out plan can get panoramic view. Overall image, the house is composed of two main volumes of spaces, one is provided for living, and the other one is for working and private space for a new couple but they are connected with flow circulations.
One of the significant circulations is a bridge which is between two main spaces, it plays a role as connection both functional and visual perception of interior and exterior spaces. We provided spaces in which relate to the featured environment, they are comfortable and relaxed spaces for leisure activities and also a meeting space for family members.
The other important element which we strongly regard, on the other word called architectural language; it is communications of construction materials. We specified material following the concept of old and new, wood and concrete became the main materials. They are in different elements such as in term of the old feeling, wooden façade and wooden floor in the house, are presented. While concrete is represented in a big high plane is an approach of the house for example. The house is designed to mix two situations, we don’t think they are opposite sides but they can share each other in different ways.

A warm welcome! Fresh Architecture at White House Community, Pathum Thani!
The design involves the two-layer constructions, strong glass and various louvers for wrapping as the façade of BBYou Clinic. Location of the building is at Rangsit, Khlong Luang in Pathum Thani. We chose these materials, especially the louvers; it can express our concept of movement and changing according with the programs like making up or surgery which can change a man’s face. The entire louver façade is approximately 700 m2. Moreover, these materials are stability in fluctuating temperatures and ability to form one continuous surface. A project called the urban facelift of the old row house community.
